I had a different pair of 180s that I recieved as a gift 10 years ago, but they broke last week so I decided to order a new pair. The old version was obviously well constructed since they lasted for so long, but the pivot screws came loose and eventually broke over time. The old version also did not completely cover my ears, and allowed some wind to get in.

The new pair feel much sturdier than the old version, which was already sturdy. They re-designed the joint that allows the ear pieces to fold, and used locking screws that won’t come lose over time. Upon first use, I was shocked to find that this new version provides 100 percent ear coverage and improved comfort all around the ear. I have already used them in 30-40 mph winds with a wind chill of -20°F, and my ears were perfectly warm and comfortable.

I’m very satisfied with the unexpected improvements over the previous version, and I’m confident that these will last me for several years as well.

I have very sensitive ears and easily get ear aches and even nauseous when it’s windy (I have been known to wear ear warmers on a 60 degree early spring day if there is a cool breeze). I tried many things (ear warmers, hats, ear bands) before finding 180s. They did a great job of keeping wind out. So, when I recently lost the pair I’ve had for 6 years, I immediately needed a replacement. I wasn’t familiar with this style and was skeptical that they would block the wind sufficiently but with so many positive reviews I thought I’d give them a try. As others have stated, I am amazed not only at how well they block the wind, but also how lightweight they are. And, since they are so thin I can hear much better. They conveniently fold flat making them easy to keep handy in my car, purse, or coat pocket. A bonus is that the fabric part can be detached for easy cleaning. I just bought two more pairs. I bought a fleece pair at the same time and I haven’t even worn them yet. Not sure why some reviewers had issues with them breaking so easily.

Simply put, those wearing hats either A) need the tops of their heads warm or B) never learned about how great these 180 Exolites are.

Benefits of the Exolties over the normal 180’s..
They’re sleeker on your head than the normal 180’s, thinner, stay put better, won’t slide up and down, cover your whole ear and actually allow you to hear while you’re using them!

It’s not apparent until you wear them for a while, but each ear pad have a L and R designation. I ignore that and prefer to wear these upside down. Why? The muffs actually taper in on the bottom, so I wear them upside down to put more, light pressure on my skull (above the ear) instead of below. This seems to hold them in place like they’re floating.

My only gripe is that the hinge holding the muffs to the band does sometimes pinch the hair near the back of your head. It’s rare though.

I can see buying a second or third pair to set aside for high wind and cold days. I will never wear a normal pair of 180’s again! Exolites for life.

I lost my previous 180s that I owned for four years I purchased from Kohls. Deciding to find a better deal I purchased these hoping them to be authentic and worth the wait. I was happy to have received them earlier than expected. They are even better than my old pair! These are VERY light weight and very effective. They do not have the adjustable width feature which is actually a blessing as they don’t move around on my head at all. My old pair that had the adjustable feature would always self-adjust on my head causing me to constantly need to reposition them; however, these that I just ordered stay in place. I’ve even found myself forgetting I have them on. Though the fabric on the ears are thin, they are warm and block the cool breeze very well. Since the material is thinner, I can hear clearly, even hear my phone calls exceptionally well. I hope I don’t loose these!

Bought these to replace a lost pair I had for about five years. Definitely keeps the wind and cold out of my ears, but it is a little heavier, tighter and clunkier than the old ones, not quite as comfortable for long walks outdoors. May loosen up as I wear it more.

Great and warm little muffs. I lost one pair and missed mine so much that I bought a second pair. I use them for running and for going out when I don’t want my hair messed up. Don’t let the thinness deceive you, while no substitute for head warmth from a hat, these do keep your EARS warm. (Idid have a friend complain when borrowing them that her head got cold… but I’m not sure why she expected head warmth from ear warmers… these just prevent your ears from getting cold and allow heat to escape from your head which is great with running, cross country skiing, etc).

If I could give this product zero stars, I would. It’s a great concept. It folds. It’s really light and very warm despite its lightness. Its fleece pods can be removed for washing. And sound does, as others have mentioned, come through it clearly, undiminished, unaltered. And, for those of you who love them, I’m glad you got one that completed the manufacturing process better than mine, qualitatively.

But the second time I wore mine the left ear fell off…rivet just separated and instantly I had AN (one) ear muff (completely useless) that won’t stay on my head even if I WANTED to use just the one side. Talk about a lot of undeserved hype for a quality trademark.

decent price – a little tight on head. takes a little bending them aroud to make them fit ok…but love that they fold up!

excellent. Learn of them from my NYC living son. He was right. They are terrific and easy to slip in a pocket, too.

For anyone who, like me, has ears sensitive to the cold, this product is a priceless gem. Folds up so small you can always have it with you. So light and comfortable it is hardly noticed when worn. Easily worn with ball caps, watch caps, climbing helmets, or pretty much anything else. And amazingly warm and windproof.
