What They Say About ‘180S MENS & WOMENS UNISEX BLUETOOTH EAR WARMER, BLACK’

These bluetooth stereo earmuffs allow you to listen to music wirelessly in cold weather and answer calls as they come in. (I ski to music, and have been using wired 180s for that, but was looking for a wireless option) These seem to be a bit smaller than my other 180s, so they may not fit a larger person. (The descripsion says both "Women’s" and "Unisex"; Women’s is probably more accurate.) They also do not communicate with Siri on my iPhone 4S, which I was able to do from a wired microphone on my old 180s. So, no voice dialing.

I have always loved the 180s design. It’s amazing how the wind not blowing in your ears can help keep you warm feeling. It has been a hindrance though when I would get a phone call while out and about with them on…not any more! These 180s with Bluetooth paired up easily with my Motorola MAXX HD. Now I just keep them on and touch the bottom on the 180s and answer my calls, listen/pause music, and even listen to the game through them using my Bluetooth device I have in my pocket. The quality of the sound is surprisingly good and you need to talk in a 20% louder voice when in an open environment when on the phone but in a room or car normal talking voice works great with the built in microphone. It’s kind of nice having some music on at a low volume and still be able to talk to my friends while keeping my ears toasty warm! I love these so much I just ordered two more pair for back up since my teenage son who refuses to wear a hat took my back up and he loves them as well. Thank goodness I found something that will keep part of his head covered while outside. He likes all the advantage mentioned above and the fact they don’t mess up his hair like a hat does. Finally, yes, they are SIRI and Google Now voice command compatible for total hands-free use. Thank you 180s!

These were lifesavers this winter. I trek daily about 1/4 mile from my office to the Metro and stand on a windy platform waiting for the train to arrive. These kept my ears warm as well as playing great music. They did seem a bit small. I think my head is normal sized (physically, not ego-wise!) for a 6’1" guy. These reach around just fine, but to keep the form factor small, the manufacturer sacrificed some "clamping" ability–my term for the comfortable feel a regular pair of audio headphones gives when they are over your ears. Also, because these wrap around from the back of the neck, head movements cause them to slowly drop on the ears as you move so you have adjust them periodically. These are definitely NOT for running. Charging them is tricky and a two-handed job as the USB plug is concealed within the material and it is quite awkward to plug them in. They do stay charged for quite a while. I didn’t run any tests to develop empirical data, but I wore them every work day for an hour or more and only charged every 10 days or so.

Amazing! Works great, feels warm and even the sound quality is great! The reason I’m giving it 3 stars is that they’ve recently stopped working and the battery last for less than 30 minutes. When I had them, I used to use them everyday, and I loved them. But, now I rarely use them, wish there was a way to put a new battery. But, maybe I just have a faulty pair, so I would say give it a shot.

I have had 180s for several years and thought I’d upgrade to the Bluetooth enabled pair. The sound quality is great, and they keep my ears warm. But the 180s are heavier than the kind without Bluetooth because of the speakers and technology that is built into them. So it tends to feel like they are always gradually, slowly slipping down off of my ears and I keep having an urge to readjust them. Also – they aren’t as flexible as the ones without Bluetooth so you can’t increase or decrease their length like you can with other 180s. I think if I were to have the chance to purchase them again I would just get a pair of regular 180s and a separate pair of Bluetooth wrap-around wireless earbuds and then cover them with the 180s.

*Update to original review (1-15-15): I’ve been using the 180s to listen to podcasts on my walks to/from work, as well as listen to music through my Spotify account. With both, the sound quality tends to be choppy. If I’m carrying the phone in my back pants pocket where I usually carry it, then forget about it – the sounds will constantly chop in and out. So I’ll carry the phone in my jacket pocket, but even then – it’s spotty. I might be fine for a stretch, but for no apparent reason the sound will go through times where it’s choppy and difficult to hear. And I’m not streaming the Spotify music – I have a premium account and the music is downloaded to my phone.

SO – if I knew that the device would perform at this level, I gotta say, I probably wouldn’t have bought them.

I have the corded version of these ear warmers and was thrilled to finally see there was a wireless bluetooth version. A lot of the reviews said these ran small; maybe they do, but they’re exactly the same size as my corded ear warmer headphones by 180 so the fit for me is fine (6′ 1" tall male). More impressive is the sound quality; I tried these with Google Music (set the EQ to "Rock" and listed to Wolfmother) and was very impressed both with the sound quality and the volume (some headphones just don’t get loud enough, and I was worried that since there is no volume adjustment on the ear warmers they might not be adjustable enough – no worries, plenty loud enough walking my route downtown Chicago). Podcasts are very clear. The ear warmers paired effortlessly with my Nexus 5 and the pause/play button works as expected. So I’m very pleased with these, exactly what I’ve been looking for on my winter walks to work.

If your main goal is ear warmth and coverage, these aren’t the thing for you. From a Bluetooth standpoint, they work pretty well but the presence of the speaker and Bluetooth component in the ear area makes the ear covering area rigid and unable to fully wrap around your ear and hug your head. If you have very small ears they might work better in this regard, but I find that they are not as snug as my regular 180s ear warmers, and slip down my head slowly.

Also, they occasionally connect to my phone without the Bluetooth media profile which allows me to only make calls, so then I can’t listen to music. This is usually fixed by just turning them off and turning them back on, but it would be nice if it worked correctly every time. People that I speak on the phone with say they can mostly hear me okay, though they have to have their volume turned up all the way. I think this is okay, because the mic placement is different than a more traditional Bluetooth headset.

I still use them daily and for the most part find them valuable. I’m glad I got them on sale though; I’d never pay the full price.

Ok everyone, here is the down low: Yes they are small for the average guy’s head; I can wear them, but I notice it. My main beef is with the power connector. It is buried in the inside, right ear muff; it is very hard to get at; it is a pain to plug in. I use it mostly for listening to lectures and it does great for that, and music is not bad (but not great either). I have tried taking a couple of phone calls and it is hard for the other person to hear me, so I mostly have them connected to my tablet, and not my phone. Because of this combination of pros and cons it is getting a 2. If I had bought them for any other purpose than listening to lectures, I probably would have returned them.

Update: Connecting the charging connector is just too difficult and frustrating. I am giving these to my brother (let him fiddle with the charging), I have purchased another pair of blue tooth headphones from a different manufacturer for myself. The new pair fit better, have controls on the headset and an easy to get to charging port. I am happier now.

I love how warm the ears are, exactly what I have come to expect from 180s and the Bluetooth is a true game changer, my walk to work is not only comfortable but significantly more productive / enjoyable since purchasing these. I have only had to charge them once in almost a month of daily use to the battery has held up well so far- i have had issues with bluetooth batteries in the past so that is an opportunity for difficulty.

My only complaint is unlikely a deficiency in the product and more likely a limit of bluetooth technology, when walking to work my podcast / music can cut out when crossing streets. As I think Bluetooth was designed for inside use and uses the walls / ceiling of the surrounding environment to maintain its constant connection there is a slight issue in that these Ear Warmers are clearly designed for exterior use. When I am walking near a wall they are fine but if I didn’t like in NYC and had those walls I don’t know if I could reliably expect these to stay in contact with a phone that is in my pocket and if I have to hold it next to my ear what is the point.

I love these bluetooth earmuffs. I’m a woman and had no trouble with them fitting my head, and they weren’t adjusted anywhere near to as big as they could get but I can see how they might not fit someone with a much larger head than mine. I wear a Medium hat for reference. These pair really easily over bluetooth and I didn’t have trouble with them disconnecting. The audio quality was pretty good as well. I was also really impressed that they picked up voice despite not having a microphone anywhere near my mouth for calls and my callers said they could hear me really well. They are also really warm. However because they are really thick with the speakers in them, you can’t hear people talking to you even when the sound is off.
